This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies Compare Bills UK uses on comparebillsuk.co.uk, why we use them, and how you can manage your preferences. It should be read alongside our Privacy Notice.
1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They’re widely used to make websites work, work more efficiently, and to provide information to the site owner. Similar technologies include local storage and tracking pixels, which we refer to collectively as «cookies» in this policy.
2. How we use cookies
We group the cookies used on this site into the following categories:
Strictly necessary. Required for the site to function — for example, remembering which comparison category (Energy, Broadband, Mobile, Insurance) you’ve selected as you move through a page, and keeping the site secure. These cannot be switched off, as the site would not work properly without them.
Functional. Remember choices you’ve made, such as menu or form state, to give you a smoother experience on return visits.
Analytics and performance. Help us understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, and where people run into problems — so we can improve it. These are set only with your consent, where required.
Marketing. Used, where you’ve consented, to measure the effectiveness of our marketing (for example, press and content campaigns) and, in future, to support relevant remarketing. We do not currently run marketing cookies on the site; this section will be updated and your consent requested again if that changes.
We do not use cookies to sell your personal data, and we never use cookies to collect more information than we need for the purpose described.
3. The cookies we use
Because Compare Bills UK is a new site, our current cookie use is deliberately minimal — limited to what’s strictly necessary to run the comparison forms and navigation. As we add analytics and, later, FCA-regulated partner quote widgets, this list will be updated before those cookies go live, and where required we will ask for your consent through an on-site cookie banner.
Session and form-state cookies (strictly necessary) — keep track of which comparison tab you’ve selected and the state of the comparison form as you use the site. These expire when you close your browser or after a short period of inactivity.
4. Third-party and partner cookies
When you request a car, home or health insurance quote, you’ll be shown a co-branded, white-label form provided by our FCA-authorised, regulated insurance partner. That partner’s own cookies may be set as part of that form, in line with their own cookie and privacy policies, which we recommend you review before proceeding.
If we add analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) or marketing pixels in future, they will be listed here, and cookie consent will be requested through an on-site banner before any non-essential cookie is set, in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and ICO guidance.
5. Managing or disabling cookies
Most web browsers let you control cookies through their settings, including blocking or deleting them. Because doing so may affect how parts of this site work — for example, the comparison form may not remember your selected category — we recommend only disabling non-essential cookies.
